How to Make River Cane Flutes

From the Land of Many Rivers

From the Land of Many Rivers began to take form and direction when I recorded "The Feral Sax" at a remote frog pond in the Apalachicola National Forest one moonlit night in March of 1997.  The primal sounds I heard there sparked my interest in primitive music and prompted me to learn how to make river cane flutes and how to build drums from hollow logs stretched with buffalo rawhide.  Since that spring evening with the frogs and the owl, my affinity for the natural world and its sounds has given me the inspiration to compose and record the rest of the songs on this album.

You will hear the sounds of hand made river cane flutes, Native American style drums and didgeridoo mixed with the modern technology of midi keyboards, concert flute, trumpet and saxophone--all surrounded by the sounds of nature from the North Florida wilderness.  It is a journey back in time and a journey off the beaten path into places mysterious and unexplored.
